Well Done!
Those who trust in God’s provision of salvation, have a hope of one day hearing, “well done good and faithful servant.” And hearing it not from just anyone but from the provider of their salvation.
What is the attitude of a servant? What is the motivation of a servant? Is servanthood the same as slavery?
Let’s Start with the third question. Servanthood or slavery. The First (Old) Testament of the Bible tells us that in those days, if one fell into unrecoverable debt to another, they were to put themselves into slavery to their creditor. This was to be a voluntary move until the debt was paid or until the year of Jubilee.
As nations developed and grew and sought to further their influence, they invaded other, weaker nations and forced slavery upon them. Today, slavery is still being forced upon others. Not always with physical force but with manipulation of laws, rules and policies. The effect is the same.
Servanthood however, is always voluntary. It grows out of care, respect and concern for others. Its motivation is borne from the inside. From a drive to serve others even ahead of self. It’s powered by an attitude of serving being a higher status, a greater honor than being served.
Though from time to time this blog may step away from the discussion of Servanthood, it will be the standing theme. Thanks for reading and commenting; prayerfully we will grow together.
